FOR REVIEWERS
Whether you’re a first time Doody’s reviewer or a seasoned veteran, this is your one-stop shop for everything you need to complete your review once you have your book in hand.
Resources to Get You Started:
Editorial Guidelines
These guidelines offer a strategic reading process to make reviewing time-efficient and offer basic style suggestions for the narrative review.

Questionnaire Templates
These templates preview the questionnaire you are asked to complete in the first part of the review process. The questions differ slightly depending on the availability of a web component for the book.

Pro Tip: If the book’s web component isn’t available for review consideration, simply mark those questions with any score and make a note in the narrative review that you weren’t able to access the resource. Our team will remove those questions from the questionnaire before publishing your review.
Narrative Review Templates
These templates preview the narrative review you are asked to write during the review process. The review comprises five to six sections related to important collection development criteria. Each section has guiding questions to prompt your complete thoughts on the book.

Pro Tip: Draft your review in a separate document before submitting it through the online review process linked below.
Example Review
Some reviewers might find it helpful to see a published review as an example. We recommend consulting your Editorial Review Group Chair for more examples or for feedback on your review before you submit it.

Pro Tip: We often get asked if we publish constructive or negative reviews. We absolutely do! While we always hope that you love a book, we understand that they won’t all be winners. Our review process allows you to speak objectively about the book’s strengths and weaknesses so evidencing a negative expert opinion is straightforward.
